I discovered the power of Reiki treatment several years ago when I started developing tendonitis in several parts of my body. Nothing worked to stop the chronic pain. If I'm honest, I was going through a lot of stress. My mother had passed away, I was travelling a lot for my work and I was finding it time consuming to manage running a business and a household on my own. Everything just seemed to build up and the chronic pain started in my joints.
Browsing a bookstore, a book seemed to be speak to me. I picked it up. It was a book explaining Reiki. I knew nothing about Reiki treatment but I knew I needed to find a way to heal my tendonitis and I intuitively felt the healing that was needed had something to do with the energy within my control and with my underlying emotions. I was already a long time practitioner of traditional Tai Chi and Qi Gong and karate and had experienced the benefits of energy work on my joints and of whole body/wholistic body movement. But Reiki seemed to be different yet complementary to my TaiChi and Qi Gong practice.
When I got home I searched online and found a website that seemed to be authentic and reflect my approach to learning and practice. The Reiki Alliance website described the Usui Shiki Ryoho approach to Reiki. It listed Reiki Masters from all over the world and I quickly found a Reiki Master in my area.
After 4 hands on treatments, I noticed that I no longer felt any pain from tendonitis. That amazed me - how could it be possible? I took advantage of a training session a month later for First Degree Reiki treatment.
A year later I took my Second Degree Reiki training so I could send Reiki treatments back home to my dogs and cat when I was traveling for my work. It wasn’t long before family, friends and colleagues were also benefiting from hands on and distant treatments. I haven’t stopped practicing since.
My Reiki lineage is Miko Usui, Chujiro Hyashi, Hawayo Takata, Phyllis Furumoto,Johannes Reindl, Ellen Sutherland and Rashne Baetz.
My background is in field biology, environmental planning, graphic facilitation and community engagement. Love of the environment, and bringing people together in meaningful dialogue is in line with my Reiki practice. It's all about living in harmony with others including ourselves!
In 2019, my Reiki Master, Rashne Baetz and I embarked on a year long training and mentorship for my Reiki Master candidacy. On a sunny day in August, 2020, in my Reiki Master's backyard, with a hawk hovering above me, I was initiated as a Reiki Master.
My vision is to teach Reiki to those who are on a spiritual path (or want to be) and want to bring self healing into their lives.
What I love about Reiki is the mystery of the practice. We don’t know why it works but it does! Sometimes the healing is emotional and sometimes it’s physical but its always what we are needing. When we commit to a spiritual path, healing happens.
Daily Reiki practice fits into my experience with training and teaching Tai Chi and Qi Gong, and my practice in traditional yoga. All are complementary forms of healing.
